The cause of death of Turkish actress Ece Irtem, who died suddenly last month at the age of 35, has been officially confirmed as acute alcohol poisoning.

According to Turkish media outlets, including Turkish Minute, Irtem collapsed after losing consciousness at her home in Istanbul on June 15 while she was with her mother. The incident occurred just one day after she celebrated her 35th birthday.
Following her death, speculation about the cause quickly spread online. Unverified claims suggested she had contracted a serious infection after being bitten by a monkey during a trip to Thailand, while others speculated that sepsis or a reaction between antidepressant medication and alcohol may have played a role.
However, the initial autopsy found no evidence of external injuries, trauma, or foul play. The final autopsy has now officially determined that Irtem died from acute alcohol poisoning.
Born in Izmir, Irtem studied opera and vocal music at Yaşar University in 2014 before pursuing acting at the Sadri Alışık Cultural Center in Istanbul.
She went on to build a successful acting career, appearing in a number of popular Turkish television dramas and films. In 2024, she also starred in Netflix’s crime thriller “10 Days of a Curious Man,” further expanding her international profile.
