Veteran actor Mike Preston, best known for his memorable portrayal of Pappagallo in the 1981 post-apocalyptic classic Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, has passed away at the age of 93.
Preston died on June 8 in Florida. His wife, Josie Preston, confirmed the news of his passing to Variety.
Over a career spanning several decades, Preston became a familiar face on both the big and small screen. In addition to his iconic role in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, he earned recognition for playing Detective Bob Delaney in the long-running Australian crime drama Homicide. He also appeared in the popular soap opera Bellbird and featured in several television series, including Dixon of Dock Green, Tandarra, Chopper Squad, Cop Shop, and Hot Pursuit, where he portrayed Alec Shaw in eight episodes.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Preston continued to build an impressive television résumé with appearances in Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Shadow Chasers, Outlaws, Alien Nation, Dark Justice, Highlander, Law & Order, and several other productions.
His film career began with Stoney (1969), followed by roles in movies such as Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn. Preston also lent his voice to the 2002 video game The Getaway, adding another memorable credit to his long list of performances.
