Chuck Norris, the iconic American actor and martial artist best known for Walker, Texas Ranger, has passed away at the age of 86. His family shared the news in an emotional Instagram post on Friday evening.

“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” the statement read. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

The family described Norris as more than just a global star. “To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family,” they wrote.

Norris “lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.”

Paying tribute to his fans, the family said: “The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for it. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends.”

The legendary star had been hospitalized in Hawaii on Thursday. His family expressed gratitude for the prayers and support sent during his recent hospitalization and requested privacy as they grieve.

Chuck Norris’ fame extended far beyond Hollywood. A master martial artist, he held an impressive collection of black belts: a black belt in judo, third-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, fifth-degree black belt in Karate, eighth-degree black belt in Taekwondo, ninth-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, and tenth-degree black belt in Chun Kuk Do.

He gained prominence in 1972 when he played Bruce Lee’s opponent in The Way of the Dragon (also known as Return of the Dragon). Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Norris starred in a string of action hits, including Good Guys Wear Black, The Octagon, Delta Force, Missing in Action, Lone Wolf McQuade, Code of Silence, and Firewalker.

From 1993 to 2001, he became a household name as Cordell Walker in CBS’ Walker, Texas Ranger, a series inspired by his earlier film Lone Wolf McQuade.

Chuck Norris is survived by his wife, Gena O’Kelley, and his children Eric, Mike, Dakota, Danilee, and Dina.
