My husband’s sister and her son, 6, came to stay with us for 2 weeks. We’ve been married for 12 years, and he never once mentioned her. I had no idea that she existed, but he said that she was estranged and living abroad and had very recently asked to reconnect. I took really good care of them and treated them like family. They eventually left.

Months later, I mentioned her to his aunt. She was confused and said, “But your husband has no sister!” I froze when I discovered that it was all a lie. When I confronted him, he denied it for a full hour before finally breaking down and telling me the truth.

Turns out the little boy was actually my husband’s son—and the woman wasn’t his sister. She was his lover. The affair had started seven years ago, during a two-month work trip to London. She became pregnant, and over the years, he continued seeing her occasionally whenever he was back there for work.

Now, he wanted his son to have some kind of relationship with his half-siblings, so he convinced her to come to the States and stay with us. She was hesitant, but eventually agreed. He swore the affair was over, claimed they were now “just good friends,” and said he only wanted to be near his son and have him in our lives.

He promised he didn’t want to leave me—but I feel completely betrayed. Lied to. I don’t know how to come back from this.
